Friend — this year was certainly unforgettable.
2020 will be remembered for many tragic and terrible things: A global pandemic that took the lives of hundreds of thousands, violent police brutality, hurricanes that ravaged our coasts, and wildfires that destroyed the west...just to name a few.
But 2020 will also be remembered as the year we defeated Donald Trump. The year we helped to elect 13 new climate champions to Congress. The year our coalition forced every major U.S. bank to commit not to finance drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The year we began to restore democracy — and so much more.
Through all of the pain and suffering, LCV supporters rose to the challenge and helped do the groundbreaking work that will leave a lasting impact on our communities and the environment.
We can't thank you enough for everything you've done this year.
Before the year ends, we're asking for support one last time. The truth is — we need your help. Here's the situation:
In the final days of the year, the Trump administration has announced a final wave of mining and drilling projects. These are actions that — if finalized before Trump is out — are incredibly difficult to reverse.
Uranium mining in South Dakota. Copper mining in Arizona that would destroy sacred Apache land. Helium drilling in Utah. Offshore oil drilling off the East and West coasts.
All of these proposals are suddenly being fast tracked. All of them are complete disasters for the environment.
Every last one hinges on what we do between now and Inauguration Day.
If the environmental movement stays quiet now, we lose.
So we're asking: before the end of the year, can you pitch in to help save the environment — one last time in 2020? A donor has agreed to triple match every contribution before the end of the year.
We know that 2021 and the Biden-Harris administration bring a fresh start, but there are still many battles ahead. In the final weeks of his presidency, Trump has little accountability to the public. He and his cronies are doing everything in their power to wreak havoc before Inauguration Day. And we've gotten word that Mitch McConnell has the backing of Big Oil to block any of Biden's cabinet nominees who are willing to act on climate.
President-elect Biden's cabinet picks are a powerful and racially diverse slate of climate champions who will tackle climate change and environmental justice — setting the stage for the next four years and the future of our planet.
This is our chance to restore climate justice and enact policies that protect our environment and people, especially communities of color and low-income communities who are disproportionately and unjustly suffering from the impacts of climate change. We cannot fall short here.
Please, make one last year-end contribution to the League of Conservation Voters today. Every donation will be generously triple-matched through the end of 2020 — even $5 is enough to make a difference »
Each and every one of you made this monumental year possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you, friend.
Cheers to 2021,
Gene Karpinski
