John -- In-home care workers, nannies, and house cleaners, the vast majority of which are working class women of color, have been living at the epicenter of intersecting crises in our country -- a looming economic crisis, global health crisis, a long history of racist polices and discrimination.
These women have been essential workers on the frontlines of the pandemic since the beginning. Yet, two-thirds of domestic and care workers have been cruelly excluded from government financial support. As coronavirus cases are spiraling out of control, most are STILL struggling to pay their rent and put food on the table.
The pandemic has taken so much from so many, and has reinforced that we need to take care of one another...and that’s exactly what our urgent work at NDWA is all about.
Thanks to our generous donors James & Gretchen Sandler, every donation between now and December 31 will be DOUBLED by a matching contribution until we reach our goal. So please John, make a critically needed donation to NDWA and our work to support in-home care workers, nannies, and house cleaners in this time of overwhelming need and it will go 2X as far.
If you've saved your payment information with FastAction, your donation will go through immediately.
Since the first days of the pandemic, NDWA immediately sprung into action to support workers who have been directly impacted by coronavirus: to ensure these women -- and they’re almost always women paid minimum wages with barely any workplace protection or a safety net -- can survive this crisis.
With your help, we've provided direct relief to thousands of vulnerable women and families, but the truth is the she-cession is hitting working class women of color hard. And as much as we’re doing as an organization directly, this is a government sized problem that requires a government solution.
So we are ALSO furiously pulling out all the stops in our advocacy and organizing to fight for a relief and economic recovery package to ensure desperately needed financial support that also invests in a stronger, more equitable system of care that is built around families, consumers and workers to power a recovery that helps us all.
I'd be so honored and thankful if you'd support our vital work with a donation. Can you make a gift today to support NDWA as we fight on multiple fronts for the people who care for us? Please don't wait: today your gift goes 2x as far, but our matching gift expires December 31.
It’s never been more clear that caregivers and domestic workers are essential to our lives. These workers have been on the frontlines of the pandemic yet are left behind in support and relief. It’s time we not only get them the support they need and show them the gratitude they deserve, but also make sure that everyone has access to care that enables all our families to thrive.
Thank you so much, for everything you do.
Sincerely,
Ai-jen Poo, Executive Director
