Dear John

Watching a dam come down and seeing a river rush back to life -- that moment
when the concrete cracks, the water surges, and the river runs free for the
first time in decades -- it’s unforgettable.

Will you power our efforts to free more rivers in 2021?

This year was full of unforgettable moments. Not only did American Rivers and
our partners celebrate a major milestone on the Klamath River, on what will be
the biggest dam removal in history , we made transformational change happen on rivers nationwide:

* In the headwaters of Pennsylvania’s Susquehanna River, we removed three dams
to reconnect 63 miles of habitat for wild brook trout, eastern hellbenders
and freshwater mussels.
* In Washington, we removed the Middle Fork Nooksack Dam -- not only restoring
river health and cultural resources, but also ensuring community water supply
and boosting salmon runs vital to endangered orca whales.

There are still thousands of outdated dams choking rivers and streams across the
country, degrading water quality and harming fish and wildlife.

We need you to keep our vital river restoration work going. In December all
gifts up to $150,000 will be matched.
