Hi John,
I was recently sworn in and am so proud to be the first out LGBTQ person and first person of color ever elected to be San Diego’s mayor. I’m deeply grateful that the people of San Diego have trusted me to tackle a new set of challenges and fight for them. And there are going to be many fights ahead: right now, local governments around the country are figuring out their 2021 budgets, and the future might look frightening.
But there’s cause for hope: right now, there’s a huge group of LGBTQ elected officials fighting to ensure our community receives its fair share of local and state resources. Your local LGBTQ officials ensure that your life runs smoothly: from getting the garbage picked up on time to maintaining health clinics to enforcing fair and equal housing standards.
Local governments, while not as attention-grabbing as the presidential or Senate races, make the world go around. And having an LGBTQ voice in the room makes a huge difference in the fight for equality. Victory Institute is committed to training a new group of state and local leaders – will you join our fight to elect a new generation of LGBTQ mayors, city councilors and more? [[link removed]]

Choosing the right people to hold local offices is more important than ever before. While there’s a new administration coming to help cities and states with their budgets, many cities can’t afford to wait. We’re going to need to make tough decisions in the coming months and having LGBTQ voices in the conversation means that LGBTQ communities won’t unnecessarily suffer under extreme cutbacks.
As my parents always told me, you have to leave something better than you found it. Our cities deserve leaders that believe, like I do, that we must create a better world for everyone. And that starts with supporting and training LGBTQ leaders to run for office – and win! – in 2021, 2022 and beyond. Join me in the fight – donate today. [[link removed]]
