Hi John,

Before the holiday, I introduced the Driving for Opportunity Act of 2020 with my colleagues in the House.

This bill will aim to prevent Americans from having their drivers licenses suspended due to court fines and fees. Millions of Americans are punished for their inability to pay debts -- and a suspended license only makes it harder for people to get to work and make the money needed to cover the cost of the fines and support themselves and their families.

We must stop criminalizing poverty, especially during a pandemic. This bill is just one step we are taking to break that cycle of poverty and ease the burden on families.

I am proud to share the news that the Driving for Opportunity Act of 2020 has been introduced in the House and the Senate with bipartisan support.

Thank you to my colleagues for working alongside me as we push to pass this critical piece of legislation.

I will be sure to keep you updated on my latest in Washington.

Best,

Mary Gay
