Hi friend --

Georgia’s lawmakers are trying to make voting by mail even more difficult.

A group of state senators has promised “to eliminate no-excuse absentee voting, require a photo ID to obtain a ballot, outlaw drop boxes and scrap a court agreement to quickly tell voters about signature problems on ballots so that they could be fixed,” according to the New York Times.

Republicans aren’t even trying to hide their goals at this point. These moves are blatant attempts at voter suppression ahead of the special elections that’ll determine which party controls the Senate.

We have to keep in mind that Republicans were doing their best to suppress the vote in the presidential election. And we still won -- in spite of the presence of poll watchers recruited to intimidate voters and the many hoops some voters had to jump through to vote by mail. But even if these senators aren’t able to enact their undemocratic plans before January 5, they’re likely to push for them to be implemented before the next major elections. (And if Mitch McConnell holds onto his position as Senate Majority Leader, they just might happen.)

We at Progressive Majority are determined to fight against these examples of rampant voter suppression within our electoral process -- but we’re running low on the funds we need to keep our efforts going. If we don’t raise another $1,927 by midnight, we might not be able to successfully counter Republican attacks on our democracy.
