Friend,
And She Could be Next, the powerful documentary about women of color transforming U.S. politics—including Rashida—is back online. You can watch it now for free at https://www.andshecouldbenext.com/watch.
(And if you live near Detroit, you can watch it on Detroit Public TV at 11 pm ET tomorrow night and Tuesday night.)
The two-part PBS documentary series features defiant candidates and organizers, including Georgia’s Stacey Abrams and head of the New Georgia Project Nse Ufot. You may want to check it out before Georgia’s January 5th runoff elections, to get an up-close understanding of the political context and an appreciation for the Black women who not only helped flip Georgia blue in November, but are also working hard to win the Senate.
Filmed throughout 2018 and into 2019 by a team of women filmmakers of color, the series follows candidates and organizers across the country, asking whether democracy itself can be preserved—and made stronger—by those most marginalized. (The answer is yes!)
In 2018, we elected Rashida to Congress along with a powerful group of progressive women of color, to represent our voices and fight for our demands. And we’re entering 2021 with an even larger group of progressives of color in the House.
As we gear up for a new Congress and President in 2021, it’s an opportune time to reflect on our movement, remember how we’ve made change before, and prepare to step into power in this moment and shape our future together.
Watch And She Could Be Next online for free through Inauguration Day, January 20th.
You can watch with your loved ones, whether you can be in-person together or not. Hopefully you’ll feel connected and get inspired!
