John,

Last week, Congress came together to reach a deal on additional pandemic relief, including an extension of unemployment benefits, help for small businesses to keep their staff on payroll, and renewing the federal moratorium on evictions, as well as $600 stimulus checks, up to $2,400 for a family of four.

But Donald Trump threatened to veto the bill and took off for Mar-a-lago. He golfs while Americans struggle, and yesterday, 14 million Americans lost the benefits that have been helping to keep them afloat. It’s dereliction of duty, plain and simple.

Trump claims he wants $2,000 checks, which Democrats had supported from the very beginning. We were more than happy to get it done and pass a separate bill to make it happen, but Mitch McConnell and Republicans — you guessed it — blocked it.

Now, expanded unemployment benefits have expired, the eviction moratorium is ending next week, and the government is poised to shut down tomorrow unless Trump and McConnell act.

We need Trump to put down the golf clubs and sign the bipartisan relief bill we already passed, and tell Mitch McConnell to bring up the bill for $2,000 checks for a vote.

Either way, we need action, and fast. The longer Trump and his party sit on their hands and do nothing, the more dire the situation will become for millions of Americans.

Add your name to join me in demanding Trump and McConnell do what is necessary to provide financial relief to the most vulnerable NOW. [[link removed]]

Tomorrow, Democrats will once again try to get our Republican colleagues to come to their senses and support legislation to expand emergency benefits and provide $2,000 direct payments. Let’s show them the American people demand it, now.
