This year didn’t unfold like any of us expected. Life as we knew it was turned on its head. The pandemic’s toll in terms of human life and suffering has been unconscionable, and though there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, we have a long way to go until we’re on the other side.
In light of this grim reality, it may seem strange that I’m asking for your help in our fight against another epidemic. But the difficult truth is that gun violence hasn’t disappeared during the COVID-19 pandemic—in many ways, it’s gotten worse.

Homicides have spiked in cities across the country. The threats of firearm suicide and domestic violence have been exacerbated by the isolation and economic upheaval of lockdowns. Critical violence-interruption workers have struggled to get the resources they need to do their jobs.
And the under-resourced communities that already bear the brunt of the gun violence epidemic are also disproportionately affected by COVID-19. The policies and programs we’re fighting for every day will lead to a safer and more just America, and a brighter future for all Americans.
