Today, the epicenter of the climate change crisis was in New York for the UN Climate Action Summit. World leaders were expected to present "concrete and transformative plans" to address climate change. President Trump initially said he would not attend, but when he reversed course and spoke at the summit this morning, he said: "I’m a big believer in clean air and clean water, and all countries should get together and do that, and they should do it for themselves."
Young people from around the world, though, are banding together to call on leaders to do more and work together. On Friday, an estimated 4 million youth from around the world participated in climate strikes hoping to catalyze action on emissions and global warming. (PublicSource covered the Pittsburgh strike with this video.)
PublicSource has been shining a light on local leaders who are in positions to shape the climate story in Pittsburgh — from Grant Ervin in the Mayor's office to big employers like the University of Pittsburgh, Highmark Health and UPMC. We hope our reporting has informed and inspired you.
One week remains for us to fundraise another $2,500 for our climate change reporting. We put the resources of our entire newsroom behind this project and will use your donation to offset operating costs.
We need you, our readers, to support PublicSource as we continue to inform Western Pennsylvania about the facts behind climate change this year, in advance of the 2020 presidential election and far into the future.
