Hi Friend,
I want to tell you about one of the proudest moments of my life — when I presided over the House Floor during the passage of the first Muslim civil rights bill. And it could never have happened without the hard work of my friends at Muslim Advocates.
When I was growing up as a young Muslim girl in Detroit, I never would have dreamed that one day, I’d be in Congress presiding over the House Floor during the bipartisan passage of the NO BAN Act. This historic bill will reunite millions of American families. It would not have happened without Muslim Advocates helping to lead the way. Will you support their work so we can keep making history together in 2021?
Making history is never easy. Many of my colleagues had never before voted on legislation to protect Muslims from harm. Muslim Advocates helped shape the bill with lawmakers, testified at the first hearing on the rights of Muslims, brought their clients to lobby members of Congress to co-sponsor and led an entire coalition of supporters — and it paid off.
But the NO BAN Act isn’t the law of the land, yet. Even when President-elect Biden rescinds the Muslim Ban, there will be nothing to stop future administrations from banning people from entering the U.S. based on their religion. In the past, we’ve seen efforts to ban Catholics and Jews, and today, it’s Muslims. We can’t let this happen again.
Next year, we’re going to have to work together to pass this bill again in the U.S. House and get it moving in the Senate to deliver to President Biden’s desk. That can’t happen without your support. Will you help us make history, again?
Muslim Advocates has even bigger plans for 2021 and beyond but they need your help. That is why I’m asking you to do your part to help fight injustice and uplift American Muslims by donating today.
Kindly,
U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib
Michigan’s 13th Congressional District
