Hi John,

After having had to adapt to one of the most challenging times in recent history, you have stuck with us and been right at the forefront throughout the year campaigning for the necessary changes our world needs. The bottom line is, you, that's right - you- make everything we do possible and for that we thank you.

Whether you took peaceful action, in real life or online, donated, lobbied companies or governments or spread the word in your local community - we've worked together to do some incredible things. And in 2021 we'll do even more.

If you're into watching explainer videos, doing a quiz or seeing the impact you've made possible this year - we hope you enjoy this end of year round up. Together, we've achieved a lot and there's so much to share with you. Read on!

The impact you've had this year

Even during a global pandemic, thanks to your support we've managed to find safe and creative ways to deliver our message to companies and governments. From holding the most northerly youth climate strike: [link removed] to sending remote control cars into Downing Street: [link removed] and reaching millions of people around the world with our films Turtle Journey: [link removed] and Monster: [link removed] - we've not stopped taking action for the planet.

We've continued to pressure decision makers and to get media coverage around the world. Our hard hitting investigations have had real world impact: from theEU banning the shipping of toxic pesticide: [link removed] to the global south to stopping Kenya becoming a dumping ground for plastic waste. Whilst adhering to covid measures we've managed to get back out on the oceans with our ships; we undertook ground breaking science in the Arctic ocean, providing vital new data on the impacts of climate change. And where the British government has failed, we took action to protect our Marine Protected Areas: [link removed] off the UK coast.

By leveraging the power of companies, MPs, celebrities and other organisations we prevented Bolsonaro legalising land grabs in the Amazon rainforest: [link removed]. Companies we've been pressuring for years have made huge announcements and we've successfully pressured the government to bring forward the phase out of new petrol and diesel cars: [link removed]. We've also made a strong commitment to put anti-racism at the heart of our campaigns: [link removed] because we know that social, racial and environmental justice go hand in hand.

Demanding change in 2021

[link removed]

Greenpeace has confronted the biggest global environmental threats of the last 50 years. We've shown how people, together, can take on the powerful and win. In 2021 we have the opportunities to shape and agree solutions to the climate and nature emergencies. Now is the time for all of us to seize this opportunity to build a better future.

We've already started! Right now, we're holding the government to account to make sure they are putting the UK's environmental, food safety and animal welfare protections into law as the UK negotiates trade deals. We will also be taking your voice to the UN oceans summit to urge that 30% of our oceans be protected by 2030 under a strong Global Ocean Treaty. We will be pushing our politicians at the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to end the reckless destruction of nature. Then at the UN Climate Conference - which the UK is hosting - we'll be pushing for the government to show real global leadership by moving our economy off fossil fuels and reducing our CO2 emissions.

From holding Boris to account on his promise that in 10 years 'every home' in the UK - will be powered by 'offshore wind': [link removed] to lending us your voice when we go to the UN, together we can help demand the changes we all so urgently need.

I'm incredibly proud of what we've managed to achieve this year. I hope you too feel proud of the impact we've had together - we couldn't do this work without you.

Remember, we want to stay connected with you; whether you have a question about Greenpeace's work or your support, we're here to help. We will be closed for the holidays from 25th December - 3rd January but at all other times my team is available to call on 0330 335 3632 Monday - Friday, 9am - 5.30pm, or feel free to email any questions you may have to [email protected] and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

We look forward to fighting for climate and environment justice together next year.

Carolyn Hoskin
