Dear John,
It took nearly three years, but tomorrow Iranian Americans and other communities impacted by Trump's Muslim Ban will finally have our day on Capitol Hill. Congress will hold its first-ever hearing to investigate this shameful policy and begin the process of repealing it.
We have all worked so hard to make sure this hearing finally takes place and that our community is represented at the witness table.
As I always say: If Iranian Americans are not at the table, we will be on the menu. That's why NIAC has ensured that a witness from our community will literally be at the table, testifying as one of three witnesses who will share with Congress how this policy has separated him from his wife.
The short-term goal for this hearing is to force the Trump Administration to issue waivers so that students and our loved ones are no longer prevented from coming to America. As I told The New York Times this weekend [[link removed]] regarding Iranian students who received waivers and then were pulled off of their flights to America without explanation— the Administration's ban and "extreme vetting" are a black box and it is up to Congress to demand answers.
The medium-term goal is to set the stage for a House vote on legislation to repeal the ban.
And the long-term goal is to pass that legislation into law and send this shameful ban into the dustbin of history where it belongs.
You can follow along with tomorrow's events on NIAC Action's Twitter [[link removed]] and Facebook [[link removed]] accounts. The hearing will begin at 10:00AM ET and you can watch it live here [[link removed]] .
And, as always, we couldn't do this work without you. Please consider making a donation or recurring contribution [[link removed]] so that we have the resources to fight this battle, tomorrow and until the ban is repealed for good.
Thank you for all you do.
Best,
Jamal Abdi
