John: $2,000 stimulus checks are still on the table.
After months of Republicans dragging their feet and holding out on life-affirming COVID-19 relief, they finally came to an agreement on $600 stimulus checks.
But, for those who are unemployed, wondering if they will make rent, and struggling to keep food on the table for their families — $600 is nowhere near enough. Even Donald Trump called it a disgrace and pushed for a $2,000 deal.
The bottom line is this: If Republicans can pass tax breaks for the rich and give three-martini lunches to the already wealthy, they can afford to give everyday people the support they need to survive this pandemic.
If you agree, add your name next to mine demanding Congress take action and pass $2,000 survival checks — immediately.
John, there’s absolutely nothing other than Mitch McConnell’s lack of empathy and manipulative partisan games standing in the way of delivering millions the relief they need.
Unemployment numbers have surged. Foodbank lines are longer than ever. And, month after month, millions of lives hang in the balance because Republicans in Washington can’t get their act together. The American people deserve better.
Now that we have momentum for $2,000 survival checks, critical support could be on the way. All Mitch McConnell needs to do is bring this matter before the Senate for a vote.
The American people need more than $600 to keep their head above water during these troubling times. So please, join me in demanding Congress not waste another moment and pass the amendment to put $2,000 checks back in the stimulus bill:
In solidarity,
Barbara Lee
