In 2020 we overcame, we fought, and Friend, we won.
Given what we have accomplished under unforeseen circumstances, I know that we will continue to win in 2021 and beyond. Together, we can save lives and end gun violence in our nation once and for all. And although 2020 may be a number we all want to forget, there are some important numbers, and victories, that we should surely remember and celebrate:
This year, we secured $50 million in federal funding to research gun violence. This both reinforces and builds upon the work that we did in 2019, when we helped secure $25 million in funding. Our determination does not go unrewarded, Friend, and this funding will help us determine evidence-based solutions that will save lives.
We’ve collected over 175,000 petition signatures calling on the IRS to challenge the NRA’s tax-exempt status. We struck a chord this summer when New York Attorney General Letitia James moved to dissolve the NRA in its entirety, and we’re keeping up the momentum.
We welcomed 100 new youth activists to our Team ENOUGH Lobbying Collective — the only national, youth-led lobbying group for common-sense gun reform. Throughout 2020, we met with dozens of lawmakers on both sides of the aisle. Plus, Team ENOUGH welcomed 11 passionate youth leaders to our Executive Council , including Aalayah Eastmond, a survivor of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas massacre in Parkland, Florida, and Stephan Abrams, who has been working with Team ENOUGH since its inception.

In California, Brady’s grassroots advocates helped secure $9 million in funds for California’s Violence Intervention and Prevention program (CalVIP), which supports evidence-based urban violence prevention programs, such as hospital and community-based violence interventions proven to reduce gun violence in predominantly Black and Brown communities.
In Virginia, we fought for and won the passage of 10 gun violence prevention bills , including $3 million in funds to invest in Virginia communities. And Gov. Ralph Northam signed an omnibus police reform bill to reform practices that have disproportionately affected and targeted Black and Brown individuals.
Leading up to the 2020 Presidential Election, Brady, Team ENOUGH, and March For Our Lives joined forces to launch our Voting Access Saves Lives campaign, because we know that gun violence prevention is inextricably linked to a fair and representative democracy. We drove thousands of calls to key elected officials , advocating for vote-by-mail/absentee voting, early voting, voter restoration, and additional ballot drop boxes in 15 priority states.
In the first full year of Brady’s Podcast, Red, Blue, and Brady, we reached an audience of 50,000 listeners and growing. Red, Blue, and Brady surpassed 100 episodes in 2020, educating and mobilizing gun violence prevention activists across the country, thanks to our hosts JJ and Kelly having impactful conversations with experts and survivors.
You are a critical partner in these victories, John. I am so excited for the work we will continue to do together, and for what we will accomplish in 2021 and beyond!
Happy Holidays,
