Merry Christmas from All of Us at Sojourners

And in despair I bowed my head;
"There is no peace on earth," I said;
"For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

"Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
"God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The Wrong shall fail,The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men.”

In the midst of this long night, in one of the longest years of our lives, a glimmer of hope has come. No matter our circumstances, no matter where we are in the world or who we are spending our holiday with (or without), that glimmer of hope is within each of us.

In a time of oppression, you have cried out for justice. In a time of fear, you have had the strength to demand, and create, change. In more ways than we could have imagined in a year like this one, the Wrong failed and the Right prevailed. And in all of this, we can find the hope of Christ born today.

On behalf of all of us at Sojourners: Merry Christmas. May the year to come be a year of healing, justice, and liberation.
