Dear Friend,
Our bountiful planet produces enough food to feed us all, and yet, more than 820 million people go to bed hungry each night. Climate change is also increasing hunger and putting additional pressures on our food systems, making it harder for people to lift themselves out of poverty. The good news is that each of us can do something about it. Bring your community to the table and start important conversation, change minds, and spur action.
Host an Oxfam Hunger Banquet® event in your community.
For more than 40 years, Oxfam Hunger Banquets have been changing the way people think about global hunger, one plate at a time. Whether held by book clubs, faith communities, college clubs, or high school classes, these events have inspired hundreds of thousands of people for decades.
We provide the materials. You provide the people. Our world provides the challenge.
Serve up a memorable meal and inspire change – host an Oxfam Hunger Banquet.
If you've never been to an Oxfam Hunger Banquet, here's how it works:
Guests are randomly assigned different income levels, and each receives a corresponding meal. A small group – the high-income level – gets a filling dinner. A slightly larger group – the middle-income level – gets a simple meal of rice and beans. The remaining 50% of your guests – the low-income group – gets only a small bit of rice and water. No matter what they're served, people talk about this event as a deeply moving experience. They leave with a greater understanding of the causes of poverty, hunger, and injustice – and with the tools and knowledge to change it.
The lesson: Hunger is not about too many people and too little food. It is about inequality and access to resources. At an Oxfam Hunger Banquet, as in life, your meal may be determined by the luck of the draw.
Hosting is easier than you think! We'll provide a free toolkit of instructions, script, and suite of digital and professionally printed materials.
Host an Oxfam Hunger Banquet event this fall – you'll be starting important conversations in your community about our world's stark inequality. >>
Thanks so much for changing our world!
Sincerely,
Nancy Delaney
