Friend ? this is bad? ? ? ? ? Friend ? this isn't the message we were hoping to send in the middle of the holidays.
Trump's Interior Department has indicated that they are preparing to officially announce an expansion of offshore drilling near Southern California, Alaska, the Gulf of Mexico, and a number of Mid-Atlantic states.
The plan is being fast-tracked to ensure Trump can leave a legacy of opening up vast swathes of our coast to Big Oil. Today, we're asking you to help stop them. Stalling them ? even for a couple weeks ? is all it takes to win. It's going to take a major campaign to turn the tide on offshore drilling ? our last one of 2020.
So we're asking: before the end of the year, can you pitch in to help save the environment ? one last time this year?
Please, make a year-end contribution of $5 or more today. Before midnight, a major donor is triple matching every contribution ? [link removed]
This is a dangerous time for the environment. With only weeks to Biden's inauguration, Trump has virtually zero accountability to the public anymore.
Our teams are already fighting off Trump's efforts to suppress science across federal agencies, gut the Endangered Species Act, and open the sacred and pristine Arctic Refuge to drilling. These are unpopular policies that Trump didn't move forward in the lead-up to the election and now only has a short window to pull off.
We only need to hold him off for a bit longer. Any roadblocks the environmental movement can put up ? whether it's through legal action, campaigning, or preparing the Biden administration to reverse course ? we win.
But the environmental movement needs to show up right now, and we need to do it in a major way. It's not just about stopping Trump in his final weeks ? it's about setting the stage for the next four years. Here's the situation:
President-elect Biden has just announced an incredible, diverse cabinet that will be ready to tackle the climate crisis as soon as they're confirmed. Mitch McConnell has indicated that he'll block the nomination process ? and he has the backing of Big Oil.
If the environmental movement stands down, we'll lose on offshore drilling, just like we'll lose these nomination fights. We have a shot ? a real shot ? but every single senator needs to feel serious pressure in the leadup to the nomination fight.
That only happens with your help. The truth is, after months of must-win political fights ? we need your help to keep this campaign going.
Please, make a year-end contribution to the League of Conservation Voters today. Every donation will be triple-matched through the end of 2020, and even $5 is enough to make a difference ? [link removed]
THANK YOU ? friend ? for everything you've done this year, and for all that you will do in the next one.
