Advent Appeal: Expose the Deception. Stop the Killing.
|
|
Dear Friend and Supporter,
Overnight, an astonishing £10,300 was added to SPUC's Advent Appeal.
The total now stands at £94,670.
We are within a whisker of reaching our appeal target of £100,000.
Another £5,330 would see us over the line.
Reaching our target would allow us to go on the front foot with two critical campaigns to stop:
- DIY abortion becoming 'permanent'
- Radical abortion being exported from Northern Ireland to Britain.
Will you help with a special gift TODAY and make this Christmas one filled with Hope for unborn babies and their mothers?

The compliance of our government and Big Tech in the suppression of free speech stack the odds massively against the pro-life side.
But I can tell you that the abortion side will ultimately FAIL because deceiving women by keeping the truth away from them is simply not a feasible strategy in the long term.
Throughout history, the truth has had an uncanny habit of winning out eventually despite the best efforts of those who are dead set on seeing it crushed.
Think of King Herod’s murderous attempts to silence the Son of Truth, the baby Jesus.
I am always encouraged by this dark yet hopeful episode from history. It is a permanent reminder to us all that… in the end … Goodness and Truth will triumph.
Who but the most faithful, on witnessing the retreat of the Holy Family into exile in Egypt to escape the murderous clutches of King Herod, would ever have imagined that one day the powerful enemies of the Baby Jesus would be totally defeated and that Christ would be raised to the throne of the world with the conversion of the Roman Emperor Constantine?
Unlike our opponents, we have TRUTH on our side, and we must never forget this.
Despite all manner of handicaps that SPUC has faced over the years, its supporters have always been there to get out the truth and pull off some truly remarkable victories for unborn babies and their mothers.
Landmark victories, defending and saving lives, like these:
2010 - Marie Stopes International abortion “adverts” on TV.
A huge SPUC grassroots campaign saw the Advertising Standards Authority receive the highest number of complaints about a TV commercial. The ads STOPPED, and not one has appeared since.
2010 - Children, Schools and Families Bill
If unopposed, this anti-life, anti-family bill would have increased legal pressure on schools, including Catholic and other faith schools, to provide pupils with access to contraception and abortion—without, of course, the consent or knowledge of parents.
2011 - BPAS bedroom abortions plan blocked
Legal arguments submitted by SPUC played a prominent role in the high court reaching a judgment which derailed BPAS’ plans to give women abortion drugs to administer to themselves.
It would be a further six years before home medical abortions were finally sanctioned (by the Scottish government in 2017).
2014 – Conscientious objection case of pro-life Glasgow midwives goes to Supreme Court
Though the Court’s ruling went against Mary Doogan and Connie Wood, the midwives’ long legal battle – backed entirely by SPUC donors – succeeded in highlighting in a very public way a grave injustice against pro-life people of conscience working in the NHS and encouraged others to take a courageous stand.
2015 – MP Rob Marris’ Assisted Dying Bill was defeated
MPs received thousands of letters from SPUC supporters urging opposition to the bill. Some commentators even say that the strong expression of pro-life feeling among constituents has kept doctor-assisted killing laws from Britain ever since.
Meanwhile countries, like Canada, the Netherlands, Belgium - and most recently New Zealand - have succumbed, resulting in the deaths of thousands of vulnerable people.
2018 - Government rejects calls for a nationwide ban on pro-life vigils at abortion clinics
Requests for 80,000 SPUC campaign postcards to the then Home Secretary, Sajid Javid, proved pivotal in bringing about this victory.
2018 - Judicial review of the Scottish Government’s “home abortion” policy
This legal action ultimately failed, but it delayed the introduction of home medical abortions in Scotland, and in England also, where an estimated 17,000 babies’ lives were saved as a result.
2020 – DIY abortion clause in Domestic Abuse Bill rejected
The abortion industry wanted to hijack this bill and make temporary DIY abortions permanent, post-Covid.
Prior to the DIY abortion clause being withdrawn, a high-impact SPUC campaign saw supporters lobby MPs and protest outside Parliament.
2020 – NEW DIY Abortion Reversal Helpline established
SPUC entered into a new life-saving initiative with a US-based pro-life group which has the capacity to see as many as 2-in-3 medical abortions “reversed” if caught in time.
Leveraging truth in the service of our babies
There can be no question that demonstrating simple, honest truth plays a remarkable role in the defence of unborn children.
Truth quite literally sets babies and their mothers free.
That’s why communicating the truth about abortion to politicians, press and public is going to be central to delivering SPUC’s key strategic objectives (below) for 2021:
Objective 1: STOP DIY Abortions
The Government must be persuaded that changing the status of its DIY abortion scheme from “temporary” to “permanent” would be a grievous betrayal of women.
The largest study of its kind shows that medical abortions have 4x as many serious complications as surgical abortions, and result in 7x more hospitalisations.
SPUC will
- Provide an evidence-based submission to the government’s Consultation on DIY Abortion documenting the serious dangers the scheme poses to the health of women
- Bring pressure to bear on MPs by launching new political campaigns - on and offline.
- Alert women to those dangers using SPUC’s growing social media network
Objective 2: BLOCK Abortion Decriminalisation
Section 9 of the Northern Ireland (Executive Formation) Act has effectively decriminalised abortion in Northern Ireland, spawning a raft of draconian anti-life, and anti-family measures.
Emboldened by their recent success in Northern Ireland, our opponents are determined to impose measures, like those below, resulting in more abortion deaths:
- Abortions performed on girls at school, without parental knowledge
- Pro-life medical workers stripped of their conscientious objection rights
- Compulsory pro-abortion education mandated in schools.
Objective 3: EXTEND Pro-life Outreach [especially among the young]
Winning the hearts and minds of the young is one battle that we simply must win. SPUC is investing an extra £195,000 to reach under 35s in 2021.
As well as further expanding its popular UK schools talk programme, SPUC is hiring the services of a professional acting company for a new school drama project, ‘Hear Me Out’.
- Through powerful classroom role-play scenarios, pupils will be discovering first-hand how logical, ethical and caring the pro-life position truly is.
A pilot conducted over the summer months showed that young people can - and do - change their position on life-related issues IF presented with the FACTS about abortion.
- Armed with an iPad and video camera, SPUC’s Pulse team plan to stop the residents of even more towns and cities across Britain and record the positive reactions.
Total expenditure for SPUC’s 2021 strategic projects is £295,000.
This sum is over and above what’s required to keep SPUC’s day-to-day projects and campaigns up and running, which this year came to £2.2M.
YOU hold the key
Just as the early Christian martyrs sowed the seed which eventually saw the emergence, in late Roman times, of a world that increasingly valued human life, today you, and good people like you, hold the key to a world where each and every unborn baby is protected in law and welcomed with joy.
Today is the final day of our Advent fundraising appeal.
A staggering £84,370 has been raised to date.
Will you push us over the line and make this a happy Christmas for unborn babies?
But I can tell you that the abortion side will ultimately FAIL because deceiving women by keeping the truth away from them is simply not a feasible strategy in the long term.
Throughout history, the truth has had an uncanny habit of winning out eventually despite the best efforts of those who are dead set on seeing it crushed.

I am truly grateful for your generosity and kindness, especially as the Coronavirus situation remains a cause for concern. Covid restrictions are certainly threatening to hamper our work.
Normally, collections for SPUC in churches each January raise around £250,000 for our work, but with Covid restrictions in place we only expect to receive a fraction of that.
Another £16,000 would see SPUC hit its Advent Appeal target and manoeuvre away from a potential cash crisis next year which threatens our key objectives.
Will you pitch in to help protect our babies?
How much you can afford isn’t important, it’s getting involved that matters.

A one-off gift of £10, £20, or £50 registers a vote for life in a world that cares so little at a time of year when we recall Truth manifesting itself so beautifully and so selflessly in the holiest of all nativity scenes at Bethlehem.
No gift is ever too small.
With YOUR support, anything is possible.

A donation - even one of £10 - could swing things our way and help SPUC pull off another remarkable David v Goliath victory for our babies like the ones listed in this email.
If you can afford to commit £5, £10 or £20 a month, that is a great tribute to the unique and irreplaceable value of our babies who are being sacrificed at the altar of “choice” every single day in our country.
Larger gifts of £100, £500 and £1,000, of course can do more, and I know sometimes circumstances permit magnificent gifts like these at special times such as at Christmas.

Thank you for your great love and commitment to unborn babies.
I wish you, and all those dear to you, a very peaceful and happy Christmas.
Yours in defence of life

PS: Christians down the ages have commemorated the deaths of the holy innocents slaughtered so callously by King Herod in Palestine, 2020 years ago.
Then as now, the people were forced to endure the systematic large-scale butchering of babies. But over time, working through His people, God enabled the expansion of Christendom around the world and laws protecting babies in the womb became the norm.
This story is a timely reminder to us all that our work for God’s Kingdom on Earth is never in vain. Every contribution we make now, however small, works for good in the end.
