We are excited to announce that Just Mercy, the bestselling book by Bryan Stevenson, has been adapted into a film starring Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx, and Brie Larson. The movie will be in theaters this December. It presents the unforgettable story of Bryan Stevenson and the case of Walter McMillian, who was convicted and sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit. Legacy Pavilion Construction Underway in Montgomery
EJI has broken ground on the Legacy Pavilion in downtown Montgomery, Alabama, as we expand our work to advance truth and reconciliation around race in America. The Legacy Pavilion will function as a welcome space, provide free parking to visitors, hold our ticket office and gift shop, and include a new restaurant. The Pavilion will also include new exhibition spaces that build upon our racial justice work. Stay tuned for more details about this new site.

Alabama Has the Most Overcrowded Prisons in the Nation
An analysis of data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics reveals that Alabama's prisons are the most crowded in the country. Alabama's prison system is operating at 167.8 percent of design capacity. These findings are consistent with the Justice Department's investigation which found that overcrowding in Alabama prisons contributed to conditions so dangerous they violate the Constitution. EJI continues to fight against abusive and dangerous prison conditions in Alabama.

Marker Ceremonies Held by Communities Across the Country
As part of our effort to confront and recover from our tragic history of racial violence and terrorism, EJI works with communities across the country to install historical markers acknowledging victims of racial terror lynching. This summer, we worked with groups in Charlottesville, Virginia; Wilmington, Delaware; Orlando, Florida; and Nashville, Tennessee, to install and dedicate new historical markers.
