Hi, fellow MoveOn member!
It's Ben and Jerry here—the ice cream guys.
We don't know about you, but we've been struggling more than ever to beat
the heat this summer.
Temperatures over the past few weeks have been breaking all-time records,
and as much as we would like to joke about the heat boosting ice cream
sales, this is no laughing matter. It is another sign of the future we
will face if we do not take bold action now to stop climate change.
On the 4th of July, temperatures broke 90 degrees in Alaska, an all-time
high.^1 June saw all-time record high temperatures in eight European
countries.^2 And a recent report from the U.N. warns that a "climate
apartheid" is coming, in which the rich are able to pay to stay safe
against the heat and extreme weather, but hundreds of millions of people
will be denied basic human rights as the world suffers the consequences of
climate change.^3
We are facing a generational crisis—and a younger generation is rising up
with inspiring grassroots activism to bring international attention and
action to this issue—but corporations and Big Money interests are doing
everything they can to stop the United States from lifting a finger to
solve it.
The flow of cash into the pockets of politicians from lobbyists, oil and
gas companies, and billionaires bent on protecting their wealth is the
biggest barrier to our government's taking action, and it is up to us to
put a stop to it.
That is why we're partnering with MoveOn and asking you to join the
movement protesting Big Money's death grip on our future by
rubber-stamping our cash with the message "Stamp Money Out of Politics."
And to sweeten the deal, when you order a stamp, we'll enter you to win a
year's supply of ice cream!
[ [link removed] ]Click here to donate $16 or more to support MoveOn's work to fight back
against the climate crisis and we'll send you your very own stamp. One
lucky stamper will also win free ice cream for a full year!
Don't worry, it's totally legal to stamp your bills, and the impact of a
single stamped bill is enormous. Each stamped bill remains in circulation
for years and is viewed on average 875 times. That means if you stamp just
20 $1 bills, 17,500 people will see our message!
We were thrilled when progressive leaders in Congress unveiled the Green
New Deal and have felt real hope witnessing the continuing work of young
activists from groups like the U.S. Youth Climate Strike and the Sunrise
Movement, which has kept the climate crisis front and center around the
globe.
But at the same time, lobbyists for companies like ExxonMobil are
continuing their decades-long campaigning behind the scenes to buy off
politicians, deny the incontrovertible science, and work hand in hand with
Donald Trump and his administration to squash any attempts at addressing
the crisis—all for the short-term goal of protecting their bottom lines.^4
But we know the truth. We've seen the reports from scientists that say we
have only a decade left to make the changes necessary to protect our
planet's future. And there is no company on the planet that is worth more
than the future of humanity.
That is why it is more important than ever that we demand an end to Big
Money in politics and clear a path for bold legislation that can tackle
the climate crisis without bowing down to corporate interests.
John, will you join us in getting our message out?

Thanks for all you do.
–Ben and Jerry
