Dana was only 26 years old when she died. She had struggled with depression off and on and I knew in my heart she was in danger. I called the police and asked them to remove her firearm, but they said there was nothing they could do.
Back then, law enforcement and family members like me had no tools to help keep guns away from people in crisis. That’s why I got involved in the campaign to establish Extreme Risk Protection Orders. Because if Extreme Risk Protection Orders had been in place then, I might have been able to prevent my daughter from having the gun that killed her.
Support suicide prevention with a special donation in honor of Dana.
Across the country, suicide accounts for three-fifths of all gun deaths. The Alliance for Gun Responsibility is leading the charge to reduce firearm suicide by passing lifesaving, groundbreaking gun violence prevention laws. I support the Alliance because no one should have to live through the pain of losing a loved one to gun violence. Today, I’m asking you to support them too.
