The Council for a Livable World was proud to endorse and support Nancy Goroff in her 2020 bid for the United States House of Representatives.

Though we, like you, are disappointed by how this race ended, we are pleased to continue championing several of the causes that Nancy has been so vocal in fighting for over her distinguished career and throughout this campaign.

Nancy believes as we do that as a country we can’t fully realize other progressive goals, including combating climate change, without making smart cuts to the Pentagon budget and reducing nuclear arsenals and threats worldwide. Since 1962, the Council has been promoting policies to reduce and eventually eliminate nuclear weapons and minimize the risk of war through lobbying Congress and by helping elect and support members of Congress who share our goals. Along with our sister organization, the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation, Council for a Livable World has been at the forefront of U.S. arms control and national security policy for more than half a century.

In fact, the Council supported President-elect Joe Biden in his first longshot campaign for the Senate in 1972. That support came full circle this year when the Council made our first ever presidential endorsement, for former Vice President Biden. We felt the stakes were too high and that nuclear tensions were rising too quickly for us not to get involved.

In this year’s election, the Council raised $1.5 million for 56 candidates, and now we have immediately turned our attention to the Georgia Senate runoff elections on January 5.

We hope that, like Nancy, you support policies that embrace science and reduce nuclear threats and hope you will take a few minutes to explore our work and our organization.
