Seeing the passion at the climate strike this Friday made it even more clear to me that bold action to ensure our species’ survival can happen, once we shrug off the yoke of bipartisan corporate rule that brought us the climate crisis.

Many San Franciscans who elected a Democratic House celebrated when Nancy Pelosi regained the Speaker’s gavel, with the expectation that she’d take action to address climate justice, as well as a host of other issues.

But, sadly, she refuses.

Speaker Pelosi isn’t being outsmarted. She’s plenty smart. If Nancy Pelosi wants something in the House to happen, it happens. So why won’t the House support a just transition to a green economy?

The reason is simple: Nancy Pelosi serves her corporate donors, not San Francisco or We the People of the United States. That’s why ⁠— with your support ⁠— I’m going to replace her in 2020.

I’m committed to a Green New Deal and universal healthcare. Nancy Pelosi is committed to the fossil fuel and health insurance industries that put her in office.

I know that we need to transition to 100% renewable energy within the next ten years. Nancy Pelosi acknowledges climate science, but refuses to take action informed by it.

And I know that we need a federal jobs guarantee to build the infrastructure that will power the Green New Deal. Speaker Pelosi doesn’t support socialist programs like that, however. She’s clear about what she thinks Democrats are: capitalists.

I wouldn’t be running if Speaker Pelosi was doing what needs to be done. But she isn’t, so I am. I need your help to make sure that San Francisco’s next representative in the House is someone who will stand with your grandchildren to protect them from the profit-driven corporate predation of the present⁠.
