Team -- As this year comes to a close, I wanted to
reach out to wish you a happy holiday season and share a few
updates on what's going on in California's 52nd congressional
district and on Capitol Hill!
This holiday season is different than those we've had in the
past, but now more than ever it's important to express our
gratitude for all the good in our lives. I am especially grateful
for the service and sacrifice of our frontline, essential and
healthcare workers.
I am also thankful for your continued support and your
commitment to our shared values. With a new president and the
opportunity for a Democratic majority in the House AND Senate
still ahead -- I am hopeful that we will make real progress toward
our goals in 2021 and beyond.
This year hasn't been easy, but I believe we will get through
the COVID-19 pandemic, together. Please stay safe and healthy and
follow CDC guidelines to slow the spread of the virus.
No matter how you celebrate, I wish you a happy holiday season.
May your celebrations be full of light and joy.

In recognition of his tireless work to help elect Democrats
across the nation, Scott has been named Vice Chair for Policy of
the New Democrat Coalition -- the largest Democratic caucus in
Congress.
Scott is ready to work with the Biden-Harris administration and
achieve real progress for all Americans. As Vice Chair, Scott
will play a pivotal role in setting our nation's legislative
agenda in the coming years.
Scott recognizes that it's crucial for us to hold seats and to
expand our majority. That's why he's a leader in California,
building a Democratic coalition, helping the campaigns of fellow
Democrats, and reaching across the aisle to pass common-sense
legislation for American families.
COVID-19 Relief: As a member of the Problem Solvers Caucus,
Scott helped play a crucial role in passing the latest relief
bill before Christmas. Scott's leadership helped bring vital
unemployment assistance, small business funding, and $600 checks
to American families all over. Additionally, Scott introduced a
bill to increase public awareness and build confidence in the
COVID-19 vaccine. This bipartisan bill will support an advocacy
campaign to provide citizens with the data and facts necessary to
create broad trust in a safe and effective vaccine.

Fighting for our Veterans: Scott continues to fight for our
nation's veterans and the men and women currently serving in
uniform.
Scott's Sergeant Daniel Somers Veterans Network of Support Act
was signed into law as part of the bipartisan Veterans COMPACT
Act. This legislation will aid servicemembers as they transition
to civilian life and empower the VA to provide resources to
designated friends and family members as they support veterans'
mental health. Along with the passage of Scott's Sergeant Daniel
Somers Network of Support Act last year, all servicemembers and
veterans are now supported under the Network of Support model.
Additionally, Scott's Veteran HOUSE Act, which will help reduce
veteran homelessness, was passed as part of the annual defense
appropriations bill. It will expand eligibility for HUD-VASH
vouchers and extend supportive housing benefits to veterans with
other-than-honorable discharges.
Supporting San Diego Students
Scott recently joined an online webinar with Student Debt Crisis
and Savi to discuss solutions to the growing crisis of student
loan debt that young people across San Diego County are facing.
Scott also met virtually with the winner of the 52nd District's
Congressional App Challenge, Edmund Sumpena, who created a mobile
app to aid those living with dementia.

Protecting Our Environment
The House overwhelmingly approved Scott's Ocean Pollution
Reduction Act II. His bill will protect and increase our water
supply, and save San Diego taxpayers millions of dollars.
Scott is dedicated to protecting our environment -- and he's
leading the way by fighting to keep our water supply safe,
affordable, and sustainable.

COVID-19 in San Diego County
COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continue to climb across San
Diego County, and Scott is urging us to continue taking
precautions to slow the spread of the virus: Wear a mask, social
distance, and avoid gathering outside our immediate households.
The state has issued a regional stay-at-home order now in effect
for San Diego County and renewed restrictions are now in place.
Restaurants, retail operations, and outdoor recreation
facilities are open with new guidelines. Indoor recreation and
dining, hair salons, and personal care services are currently
closed.
