AFSCME Family,
Nine months ago, a deadly pandemic slammed into our shores and upended our lives. As much of the country shut down, AFSCME members went to work: treating patients, keeping school kids fed, doing whatever our communities need in these difficult days.
Now as we celebrate the holidays – often at a distance – we are still hard at work. Our country is depending on us more than ever, and we will stay on the front lines of the fight against this pandemic as long as necessary.
But Donald Trump and his allies in Congress don’t respect our sacrifices. As we put our lives at risk in service to others, they refused to fund the front lines to protect us and our jobs. When they passed a long-overdue COVID relief bill, they left us out.
We aren’t done fighting. Come January, we’ll have a new president, a new House, and – if we fight hard and win in Georgia – a new Senate.
In 2021, we will continue the fight to fund the front lines.
Like just about everything in 2020, the holidays will look different this year. Many of us are changing traditions and foregoing travel to help fight the pandemic that has destroyed so many lives.
So many of us have made sacrifices this year.
We don’t need lip service or meaningless gestures. We need the funding to keep doing our jobs.
I hope your holidays are full of joy, and that we can soon celebrate a victory together.
In solidarity,
Amy Hendrick
