Team, After Congress passed an inadequate COVID relief package with $600 relief checks that fail to meet the scale of this crisis, Donald Trump decided this was the time to weigh in and say he wanted $2,000 checks. The people have been demanding $2,000 recurring survival checks for months! So, let's not waste any time in making it finally happen. I, along with my colleagues Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Jamaal Bowman, and many others are calling on Congress to immediately pass $2,000 survival checks as part of the latest COVID relief package.
Our people-first movement knows what too many lawmakers in Congress ignore. People are struggling to pay for food, make rent, keep the heat on, stay safe, and just get by during this pandemic. At least 26 million families are hungry right now in America. Evictions have continued across the country despite a so-called "eviction moratorium." Nearly one million additional people are losing their jobs each week.
The relief bill that just passed does not go nearly far enough for most people. So many have already been left out or left behind by Congress and President Trump during this pandemic. We must seize on this opportunity to get the most help to as many people as possible. We're in this together and I will fight for the people until the end. In solidarity, Pramila Jayapal
