Hi Friend,
We know you don’t need to be reminded that 2020 has been a tough year for everyone. Watching the daily news cycle often makes the state of the world seem hopeless, but we’re here to tell you: it’s not.
There really are reasons to be hopeful about the future. Here are just a few reasons to hope from 2020:
Fighting COVID-19 in 2020:
- There are at least 63 vaccine candidates in clinical trials at this point and some countries including our own have begun to distribute vaccines to hard-working health workers.
- As the largest single vaccine buyer in the world, UNICEF will play a vital role in what could possibly be the world's largest and fastest procurement and distribution of vaccines.
- In the first half of 2020 alone, UNICEF distributed critical humanitarian supplies, COVID-19 protection and hygiene items worth $424 million.
Helping children in 2020 -- we've also:
- Reached more than 73.7 million people with soap, water and hygiene supplies.
- Treated nearly 1.5 million children for severe acute malnutrition.
- Supported 261 million children with distance and home-based learning.
- Given almost 75 million children, parents and caregivers community-based mental health and psychosocial support.
Responding to emergencies in 2020:
- Beyond COVID-19, we also saw the end of the Ebola outbreak in the Equateur Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In this region, UNICEF provided care and psychosocial support to hundreds of children whose parents or caregivers have fallen ill or died due to Ebola >>

- Donations to the response to the explosion in Beirut provided 22,000 children under 5 with essential nutrition and more than 7,200 children, parents and primary caregivers with mental health and psychosocial support services.
Friend, we hope this list gave you hope during what is definitely a different holiday season than we are used to. Progress has been harder to see this year, but we promise, it’s there -- and as a UNICEF USA supporter, you are a part of it.
From all of us at UNICEF USA, thank you.
P.S. Watch this short video to see some of your phenomenal impact in action >>
