=============================

John,

Thank you for registering for “Where Do Cities Go From Here? The fight against austerity and for freedom in 2021 and beyond.” In case you missed it, we have provided you with a recording and recap below.

On December 4, 2020, The Partnership for Working Families hosted the panel discussion exploring the challenges and opportunities for building inclusive, equitable, and feminist local democracies. We were joined by Bishop Dewayne D. Royster of POWER Faith & Action, Stacy Davis Gates of the Chicago Teachers Union, Michelle Healy of SEIU, and Jessica Gonzalez of the City of Barcelona/Barcelona en Comú. Our insightful discussion revealed a deep truth, within the ideology of austerity lies the myth of scarcity.

Moderated by our Executive Director Lauren Jacobs, panelists described in detail the need for policies grounded in abundance. And that when we create policies from a place where we have enough –– fully funded schools, robust unions, vibrant communities, and defunding the police are all possible.

Although our challenges seem great, the goodness in this moment is that we've learned from these experiences. We will continue to fight to protect people and use those muscles to expand and build democracy.

In solidarity,

Lauren Jacobs
