Dear John,
In what has become an annual tradition, as the year comes to a close, we pause each December to take stock of the moments and people who shaped the last 12 months — for better, or for worse.
For 2020, we compiled two Top 10 lists: One celebrating the lives of those individuals who had a profound impact on the year, and one looking back on the moments of hurt and hate — whether antisemitism, racism or extremism — that shaped our country.
|
10 Inspiring Lives
This year’s list includes iconic individuals like John Lewis and Ruth Bader Ginsburg as well as people you may be learning about for the first time, including the inspiring Rose Ritch, Zach Owen and Bernie Ramirez.
Without further ado, here are the people and groups that inspired us in 2020.

10 Heartbreaking Moments in 2020
The year was marked by a series of setbacks in the fight against hate, from the killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor that sparked a national reckoning on systemic racism, to the ‘Zoombombings’ that endangered our attempts to stay connected during this socially distanced year, to the rise of new extremist groups like Boogaloo and QAnon that have sunk dangerous roots online and on the ground.
Here is ADL’s list of the Top 10 Moments of Hate from 2020.

All of these moments, both good and bad, should serve as an inspiration to the ADL community and our country about the need to speak out, stand up and show strength against antisemitism and hate in 2021.
As the year ends, please consider supporting ADL with a donation to help us keep Fighting the Good Fight.
Thank you, |
