Remember a couple weeks ago when we learned about a secret Facebook group of thousands of Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) staff, filled with disgusting comments and memes wishing death and harm to immigrants, laughing at the inhumane conditions of detention centers, and promoting violence toward women of color in Congress like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez?

Naturally, CBP leadership played dumb and claimed they had no idea this racist, sexist, and vulgar group existed, and promised staff would be held accountable. Now, we know that’s a lie.

It turns out that CBP Chief Carla Provost was a member of the group. She even posted in it.

Provost’s original response to the news of this Facebook group, in which she claimed, “These posts are completely inappropriate and contrary to the honor and integrity I see,” was clearly a bald-faced lie. How can we trust this supervisor to hold her staff accountable for their hatred and cruelty when she knew about it for months and did nothing?

It’s bullshit. Accountability at the agency that is actively dehumanizing children and families in detention centers and then bragging and laughing about it on social media starts at the top.

Amazingly, while Trump seems to love almost any kind of media attention, he doesn't love this kind. That's why just yesterday Labor Secretary Acosta resigned and that's why, if we turn up the media pressure, so will Chief Provost.

While Vice President Mike Pence takes press into his and Trump’s concentration camps this weekend and pretends that everything is just peachy, we need to rise up and show this lying, heartless administration we reject their cruelty and human rights abuses.

We will raise hell until these people are held accountable.
