For nine months, Republicans have stonewalled any COVID relief for working families. But last night, Trump threw a wrench in the works for his party, suddenly coming out in support of $2,000 survival checks.
Rashida Tlaib and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez immediately responded with an amendment to the existing bill that would do just that:
We have a real and unexpected opportunity to put $2,000 checks in the hands of working families, but we need to raise our voices now.

$600 checks are a drop in the bucket for working families already months behind on rent and utilities. $2,000 isn’t enough either — and we are going to need a lot more to survive this pandemic — but we have to get this done.
AOC and Rashida Tlaib have the amendment ready. Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi say they are on board, too. Trump just said he’s willing to support $2,000 checks.
The only thing standing between $2,000 checks and working people across the nation is Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans. They — and all of Congress — need to hear from all of us.
