Please understand I’m a person who supports law enforcement and I still believe that nearly all men and women in Blue serve our communities with honor and respect…



However, today I saw a headline that made my blood boil. Outside of Fort Lauderdale Florida a 70-year-old man battled a violent home intruder at the door of his home.



For 15 minutes the violent criminal attempted to physically break through the front door. In the process he smashed in a large amount of glass that was part of the door.



On the other side of the door is the 70 yr old homeowner with a gun in one hand and his phone in the other hand pleading with the 9-1-1 dispatcher to send help while he pushed against the door to reinforce it against the violent attack.



And less than a football field away, 18 sheriff deputies gathered over those 15 minutes standing by NOT coming to the aid of this homeowner. 18 deputies in total were dispatched to the scene but not a single one decided to go to the home and protect the innocent homeowner.



It isn’t the first time, and it won’t be the last. The US Supreme Court has ruled that while law enforcement officers take an oath to serve and protect they are not bound to do so legally.



My point? When your worst day happens, you can’t count on anyone to help you. You alone need to possess the skills to protect yourself and your family.



No one is coming to help you. YOU are your own first responder.



It may not seem like a likely scenario to you, but 85% of home intruders break in through the front door. Sometimes with force, sometimes through an unlocked door, but even more often than you would guess they trick the homeowner into opening the door and letting them in.
