Hey,

Yeah, so this is a weird feeling, but yes, in this one, very, very limited
(but important!) case, we agree with Trump.

~record scratch~ So last night, Trump announced he wouldn't sign a
stimulus package that doesn’t include $2000 survival checks for Americans.
Welcome to the club, Mr. President; we’ve only been calling for direct
relief for months while your own party obstructed at every turn.

Regardless, no matter what Trump’s motivations (probably making himself
look good when he’s not), we’ve got a chance to help people more and no
time to waste.
If you’re not looking for a process explainer and just want to know how
you can ensure millions of people get more money soon, [ [link removed] ]click here to
get our call script and contact your member of Congress today (right now,
this morning, as soon as you see this) to demand they bring increased
survival checks to a vote -- and pass it.

OK, for those of you who do like process, here’s what will happen next:

 1. House Democrats need to pass a bill that would increase the direct
assistance amount from $600 to $2000.
 2. They’ll try to pass this through “unanimous consent," but if even one
member of Congress objects (which, spoiler, some Republicans probably
will to protect their corporate donors), we’ll have to...
 3. Pass the change by a majority vote. The House has proxy voting, so
even though many members of Congress are already home for the holidays
(this is happening two days before Christmas, did you notice?), only a
few will actually have to be on the floor for the vote to pass.
 4. Then it will have to go to the Senate and go through more or less the
same process (except with the new and added complication that they
don’t have proxy voting.) Stay tuned for more resources there if --
when! -- we get to that point.
 5. In the meantime, Trump should sign the bill that has already passed
the House and Senate, make Senate Republicans--who have been the
problem all along--pass the update to $2000 checks and then sign the
update as soon as he gets it.

While Trump’s motives are deeply suspect, we’re not going to miss this
chance that he just gave us to help people. [ [link removed] ]Please, click here to get
our call script now and join the Congressional Progressive Caucus (and…
Trump??) in pressuring Members of Congress to increase the size of
survival checks right away.

Thank you for always being ready to spring into action at the drop of a
hat. It’s because of you -- because of all of us -- that progress is
possible.

In solidarity,
Indivisible Team
