Hi John,

This year has been a whirlwind.

We've undergone a historic election resulting in the victory of President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris <[link removed]>, the first woman of color to ascend into the second-highest office in the land. And yet, women and their families are still bearing the brunt of one of the greatest public health and economic crises of our time. Women, especially women of color, have been hardest hit <[link removed]> by the current recession and continue to sustain daily attacks on our access to healthcare.

This year has made clear that we must enact big, bold structural reforms to address underlying racial and gender disparities that disportionately harm the most underserved, particularly Black, Latina, Indigenous, Asian American, young, disabled, low-income, immigrant, and LGBTQ women. That’s why our work has focused on not only undoing the Trump administration’s harmful actions but also centering women in proactive policy solutions to allow us and our families to thrive.

As we say goodbye to 2020, we're sharing our vision for what women need in the new year.

READ | Our What Women Need interactive <[link removed]> provides over a hundred policy solutions and recommendations for the policies that women <[link removed]>, especially women of color, need during the coronavirus pandemic and beyond. Moreover, we know that as the COVID-19 vaccine becomes widely available, the health needs of women, particularly Black women <[link removed]>, must be prioritized for a truly equitable COVID-19 response.

WATCH | Even before the pandemic, millions of families <[link removed]> were struggling to make ends meet. No matter what, we won’t give up the fight to expand access to national paid leave <[link removed]> that ensures racial, gender, and economic equity and meets the needs of families.

LEARN | Despite wins <[link removed]> in the courts, access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare, including abortion care, remains under attack <[link removed]> and out of reach for many in the United States. In the new year, we must not only fight efforts to dismantle Roe v. Wade but also advance bold progressive policies <[link removed]> that safeguard and expand access to reproductive health services.

Thank you for standing with us throughout this tumultuous year. We look forward to continuing the fight with you for women and their families.

Wishing you a peaceful holiday season,

Shilpa Phadke
