Dear John,

This year, I had the pleasure of directing a short film about former GLSEN student activist Austin Laufersweiler. Coming out as a gay teen in a conservative town in Georgia more than a decade ago was a fearless act, but Austin’s story is about a lot more than coming out -- he used his voice to make lasting change.

With GLSEN’s help, Austin created his school’s first Gender and Sexuality Alliance. He helped win anti-bullying policies in Cobb County that became a model for the rest of Georgia. He lobbied his senator in Washington and was invited to the Obama White House. Today, he works for a progressive political organization.

Every day, GLSEN supports students like Austin to thrive and ensures that LGBTQ+ students and educators everywhere can continue to live their authentic selves in schools and beyond. From creating valuable resources for students and educators to fostering safe spaces for LGBTQ+ students to sharing the important stories of LGBTQ+ students everywhere, GLSEN is doing the work.

GLSEN needs our support today to continue doing this invaluable work in 2021 and beyond. Will you join me in donating to GLSEN today? [[link removed]] My friends Jim Parsons and Todd Spiewak have agreed to DOUBLE every gift this month with a 1:1 match up to $125,000.

I've been involved with GLSEN for almost 10 years -- meeting and working with Austin was definitely one of the highlights. GLSEN made a difference in his life and does so every single day for LGBTQ+ students around the country.

By making a gift to GLSEN, you can help students like Austin make their voices heard. [[link removed]]
