To all our friends and sponsors,

Although the term “very unique” usually strikes me as an indefensible tautology, it does apply to the magazine with whose production we are associated. Unlike other magazines, Chronicles is the only publication that explicitly identifies with the Old Right. We make no bones about this identity and in fact revel in it. We have brought out issue after issue over the last forty years not to obtain a place at the table of the powerful. Quite to the contrary: We take pride in interpreting cultural and political issues from our clearly established perspective, as defenders of the Western civilization that existed until recently.

I specify “recently,” since the increasingly corrosive impact of postmodernism on Western values and traditions has reached a critical point. Indeed, the war has now taken the form of Cancel Culture in the fashion salons of industry and academia, as well as in the presumptuous suppression of alternative voices by big tech and the media barons. The result is: They seek to limit our plans for growth. But we find no compelling moral reason to change our colors, even at the cost of our exclusion from other forums, both establishment conservative and leftist.

Without exaggerating our importance, it would be accurate to state that Chronicles is the only magazine that shows a continuity with the values that the conservative movement articulated in the middle of the twentieth century. We alone are holding that fort that others have abandoned. That’s why it’s imperative that we continue our mission. What we offer is not available on Fox News or elsewhere in the Murdoch empire. Our commentaries and analyses are “really unique,” if we may avail ourselves of an irritating phrase. But we can only succeed in our labors if we have the financial means to do so. As I write, we need to raise $100,000 by the end of the year to stay on budget.
