Together, we can create the change we want to see.

“…don’t shy away from conversations about safety. [It’s] about providing safety for everyone and doing so in a manner that respects everyone’s rights and dignity.”

Dear John,

Everyone deserves to feel and be safe. And everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.

But safety means something different to everyone.

It means not having to worry about paying the rent. Or knowing we are part of a strong and peaceful community. It most definitely means feeling safer and not threatened by the presence of police. And, for too many, it means an end to mass incarceration. That’s why we support leaders who are working every day to uplift positive narratives of safety, dignity, and equal justice for all.

As a communications lab, we work tirelessly to create and provide resources and tools – messaging recommendations, trainings, and research reports to name a few – to social justice leaders and activists across the country who are amplifying narratives that tell a new story about what it means to be safe.

For example, earlier this year we released a new report called “Beyond Policing – Supporting #DefundThePolice,” which uplifts solutions that promote true community safety and offers strategies for shifting the narrative on safety and police accountability. The report tells allies, “…don’t shy away from conversations about safety. [It’s] about providing safety for everyone and doing so in a manner that respects everyone’s rights and dignity.”

Support from people like you is used to develop and provide resources and training, free of charge, to social and racial justice leaders. To undertake the crucial research and analysis that guides our recommendations. To produce the reports and tools that advocates rely on for their local, regional, and national efforts.

The Opportunity Agenda works every day to flip the script on harmful narratives around race, equality, and safety, and to lift up the voices of those directly impacted by injustice. Will you join us?

In solidarity,
