Dear John,
Jews represent just 2% of the population in the United States. And yet, they are the victims of more than 60% of religiously-motivated hate crimes—the largest group by far.
These statistics, released by the FBI in November, should alarm us all.
But at AJC, we know that the Jewish people are not in this fight alone.
We have allies—influential leaders and everyday Americans who, when Jews are in trouble, will stand up and speak out.
For more than a century, AJC has been hard at work, forging these friendships for the Jewish people. It is at the core of who we are.
AJC has always believed that to fight anti-Jewish bigotry, we must fight all types of bigotry. And, even in this challenging year, when divisiveness and discord are running high, we are proud of the progress we’ve made together with our partners.
With your support, AJC can continue to build coalitions that combat hatred and division. And if you give today, your gift and impact will be doubled. |
AJC works with other minority religious and ethnic groups to ensure that pluralism wins the day. In the past year, we’ve only strengthened those bonds.
- When hate crimes rise, we find solutions. Together with our Muslim and Black partners, AJC continues to take the lead in advocating for the passage of the NO HATE Act, which will improve reporting on bias crimes. The NO HATE Act will empower the federal government to more effectively counter this scourge. As I write this note, the legislation has already advanced in the House of Representatives and we are advocating for the U.S. Senate to pass it before year-end.
- When Jews are targeted, we mobilize people of good will to fight back... Through major public advocacy campaigns like #JewishandProud and #ShowUpForShabbat, AJC brings together millions of Jews and allies to say, unequivocally, that antisemitism is unacceptable.
- ... and when others are in need, we support them. That’s what allyship is about. After the killing of George Floyd, our country began to go through a powerful racial reckoning. AJC was there to stand with our Black allies, partnering with the National Urban League on #BlackJewishUnity week, an initiative to bring our two communities together to address rising racism and antisemitism.
And, when our Asian-American neighbors were targeted during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, we raised our voices against this senseless bigotry, supporting a Congressional resolution that denounced rising anti-Asian sentiment.
Together, we must continue this sacred bridge-building work. Support AJC today and your generosity will be doubled.
As American Jews, it’s up to us to strengthen our democracy and stand up for mutual understanding. And because of AJC, we have friends at our side. |
Sincerely,
Melanie Maron Pell
