Friend,

“Racial justice demands action. Racial equity is the goal. Passivity is not an option.”

Did you see Valerie’s email below about the ambitious goals set out by EPI’s Program on Race, Ethnicity, and the Economy (PREE) for 2021?

PREE is a nationally recognized source for expert reports and policy analyses on the economic condition of America’s people of color. Your year-end contribution will help fund this critical effort as we work to lift up all working people throughout the United States in 2021.

Read Valerie’s email below about PREE’s critical work in the New Year, and then make a year-end donation to fight for transformative change and an economy that works for all of us, regardless of ethnicity, race or social status. ([link removed])

Valerie has become a key voice on issues of equity, recently being appointed to the Academic Advisory Panel of the President of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and the Economics Task Force of the Coalition for Women’s Appointments, that is helping to recruit qualified women for the incoming Biden-Harris administration. With your donation, you’re helping to put her important work at the forefront of policy discussions to impact change.

Thank you for all you have done in this past year, and you continue to do, to fight for progressive economic change.

Friend,

I am proud to serve as the director of EPI’s Program on Race, Ethnicity, and the Economy (PREE), which is a nationally recognized source for expert reports and policy analyses on the economic condition of America’s people of color. This analysis has been in critical demand during the COVID-19 pandemic, which had a disproportionate impact on Black, Latinx, Native American and low-income communities. Our work at EPI, for example, showed that Latinx workers—particularly women—faced devastating job losses in the COVID-19 recession.

There are no shortage of problems facing the United States, including: severe racial inequities, economic inequality, chronic income and wealth disparities, unequal access to higher education, and much more. In the coming weeks, Joe Biden will be sworn into office as the President of the United States.

Friend, we have a historic opportunity to make a real difference for people of color and working people throughout our country. Can you make a year-end, tax-deductible donation to EPI today to fight for transformative economic change? ([link removed])

Here are some of the goals that EPI’s Program on Race, Ethnicity, and the Economy will be fighting for in 2021:

PREE will engage with the Unequal Bargaining Power project to explain how conventional economic theory fails to adequately address racial discrimination in labor markets and propose an alternative framework for understanding the imbalance of power inherent in the social structures that perpetuate racial inequality in labor market outcomes.

We will build upon our successful PREE workshop series, “Turning Good Intentions into Constructive Engagement on Race,” by developing a Handbook for Conducting Anti-Racist Economic & Policy Research.

And we will continue to grow our national coalition, and amplify the power of our supporters, to develop and advance anti-racist policy solutions that lift up all working people.

Those are just a few of the ways we’ll impact the policy agenda around racial equity in the New Year. I hope you can support our critical work with a year-end donation today. ([link removed])

As I said in my recent keynote address ([link removed]) at the Federal Reserve Symposium on Racism and the Economy: “When we consider the origins of race as a social construct, the racial disparities we observe across any number of economic outcomes should come as no surprise. Since this nation’s inception, race has been used to systematically exclude, marginalize, exploit, and generate unequal economic outcomes, while also being used to justify and normalize those unequal outcomes.”

Clearly, we have a lot of work to do, but together we can accomplish our goals. Racial justice demands action. Racial equity is the goal. Passivity is not an option.

Thank you for all you do to lift up working people and to fight for racial, social and economic justice.
