Friend -

Racial disparities and inequities leading to maternal death and near-miss events during pregnancy disproportionately impact Black Americans, American Indians, and Alaska Native at higher rates.

These mothers face up to 3 times higher rates of pregnancy-related death when compared to White, Asian/Pacific Islander, and Hispanic women.

The COVID-19 pandemic has added another layer of complexity to the short-term and long-term care of moms. [[link removed]] The pandemic alone would have been enough to make maternal care and comprehensive care more challenging - but similar racial disparities that are present in maternal mortality are present in rates of those acquiring the COVID-19 illness.

That’s why it’s even more important that we elevate the needs of moms in our communities. At March for Moms, we do this three ways.

• We train advocates and support their efforts to increase awareness around the maternal mortality crisis.

• We rally, march, and hold virtual town convenings to gather and build community among experts, providers, families, and moms.

• We show up on Capitol Hill, in the news, and online - anywhere we can share our message and raise alarms about the crisis childbearing families face.

We are growing and the momentum around addressing maternal mortality is building. Are you with us, friend? [[link removed]] How are you showing up to demand we address racial inequities, racism, and health care disparities for families in your community?

If you’re looking for a community dedicated to improving the health and well-being of all mothers and their families, you have a place on Team March for Moms.
