Well, the lame duck session is over for the Michigan
legislature! And I am happy to have gotten several bills
passed and to the Governor’s desk.
I am proud to have passed four of my bills in 2020, to:
- Institute a water shut off moratorium during the pandemic,
- Permanently create the Family Advisory Board within the Department
of Corrections,
- Expand the age eligibility for HYTA (an important criminal justice
alternative program for young people), and
- Implement an address confidentiality program for survivors of
domestic violence and sexual assault.
If you would have said six months ago that we could get a water
shutoff moratorium through a Republican legislature with wide
bipartisan support, most people would have laughed. But thanks to the
tireless work of dozens of activists, organizations, lobbyists – WE
DID IT!
“Getting Things Done” has always been our slogan for Team
Chang – and we really mean it. Can you send in a $10 or $25 donation?
Your ongoing campaign support allows me and my team to stay focused on
delivering results and solving problems for our residents.
2020 has been a _____ (fill in the blank with whatever
adjective you see fit, seriously) year. And I’ll be honest – I
cannot wait for 2021 to get here. We have a lot more we need to get
done for Detroit and Downriver as soon as possible.
I will always fight hard for what my residents deserve, even when billionaires are on the opposite side.
With gratitude,
