Hi John,
Welcome to what I humbly suggest is the best community in politics: Run for Something!
I'm Amanda -- a bookworm, feminist, Nationals fan, formerly Hillary Clinton's email director (the fundraising ones, not the other emails), and very proud co-founder of Run for Something.
We launched RFS in January of 2017 with a simple mission: recruit and support young diverse progressives to run for down-ballot races in order to build sustainable power for Democrats in all 50 states.
Here are 3 reasons to be a part of Run for Something:
If you believe all politics is local, you fit in with Run for Something. We focus exclusively on down-ballot races (meaning: positions like school board, city council, and state legislature). Both because we believe that's how we build long-term power, how we find future senators and representatives and (dare I say it) presidents. But also because who's on your school board, who's your mayor, who's your county commissioner -- that
matters.
If you think our government needs to look more like the rest of our country, you fit in with Run for Something. We are dedicated to electing young,
diverse progressive candidates to office -- not just folks who got the right internships. or who pass some BS "viability" test. We look for teachers, activists, parents, artists, refugees, and anyone who just wants to make their communities better.
If you want to see more progressive policies enacted, you fit in with Run for Something. Let's be real -- expecting much to come out of a White House led by Donald Trump and a Senate led by Mitch McConnell has worse odds than a Powerball ticket. But that doesn't mean progressive change isn't possible. Our school boards can make sure queer kids are safe when they go to school to learn. Our city councils decide whether to invest more in police or housing, health care, and diversion programs. Our state legislatures decide whether or not to expand Medicaid. These aren't just placeholder offices -- they have a real, tangible impact.
Right now we are hustling for the over 500 campaigns in 47 states and Washington, D.C. that we are supporting in 2020 elections.
If you share our values and are ready to help elect young progressives -- then the best place to get started is checking out the over 500 candidates we've endorsed for 2020.
Looking forward to teaming up with you,
Amanda Litman
