Hey there, it’s me Nellie.
As the WisDems Executive Director, you don’t hear from me often because we like to keep our emails focused on organizing and helping Democrats win up and down the ballot. But the 2020 fiscal year is about to end so I'm writing to make an important request.
So far over 800 WisDems supporters have become monthly donors as part of our year-end fundraising drive. I’m amazed by the response. But we’re still short—our goal is 1,500 monthly donors before the end of the year. There are only 9 days left in 2020 — will you start a monthly donation today?Yes, I’ll chip in $5 / month to help reach WisDems’ goal before December 31.Yes, I’ll chip in another monthly amount.
At WisDems, we value every donation that’s made — whatever the size — because the way we create change is through an engaged community of people pitching-in and taking action together. In 2021 and 2022, we have big plans:
-
We’re going to re-elect Governor Tony Evers. Governor Evers beat Scott Walker in 2018, ending the reign of one of the most anti-democratic, anti-worker Governors in American history. Re-electing Governor Evers in 2022 is crucial to keeping Wisconsin blue in 2024 and beyond.
-
We’re going to defeat Ron Johnson — America’s worst Senator. He’s a BIG reason why Americans are getting $600 checks instead of $1200 checks during this unprecedented pandemic. He’s consistently blocked stimulus bills from passing the Senate. He’s a Trump lackey and he’s up for re-election in 2022. We’re going to defeat him.
-
We’re going to fight for fair maps. Wisconsin is one of the most gerrymandered states in the country. That’s why Republicans win majorities in the legislature despite only winning a minority of the vote. Next year will be a crucial opportunity to change this reality, and notch a massive win for democracy.
-
We’re going to pass a people’s budget. The Wisconsin GOP will try to cut funding for everything from education to healthcare to clean air and water. Alongside Governor Evers, we’ll fight these cuts and organize for a government that helps *everyone* thrive.
-
We’re going to organize year-round. What happens too often is we build up massive organizing programs ahead of Presidential elections and then wind them down immediately after. This boom and bust cycle is bad for democracy and bad for Democrats. At the WisDems, we’re committed to changing how state parties operate, and organizing throughout the year and in between cycles is a key part of this plan.
By chipping in right now, you’ll ensure that we don’t have to cut back on any of these plans. We can’t afford to start off the new year behind — this work is too important. Will you chip in right now?
Yes, I’m proud to support the WisDems.
For a powerful 2021 and beyond,
Nellie Sires
Executive Director
