At times, we all need something or someone; at other times, we’re in a position to give. AARP offers Community Connections to help people in either case. The resource also includes a phone number that everyone can use at some point: the Friendly Voice service. Read more about the online resource that is free for those who want to give as well as receive.
Sign Up! Help Take Nurses on Boards Coalition Over 10K
The Nurses on Boards Coalition (NOBC) is within sight of its goal: to have its registry show, by the end of 2020, 10,000 nurses who serve on boards. Help put it over the top! On a board? Check in. And please spread the word so other nurses know to register their leadership role with NOBC.
American Heart Association Reinforces Its Anti-Racist Principles
The American Heart Association has issued a call to action in “Structural Racism as a Fundamental Driver of Health Disparities.” Its previous statements, writes AHA, “have not adequately recognized structural racism as a fundamental cause of poor health and disparities in cardiovascular disease.” This presidential advisory tackles that head on. Among authors: Eduardo Sanchez, MD, MPH, FAAFP, of the
Campaign Strategic Advisory Committee.
"Greatest Influence”? Essential Workers, Say Time’s Readers
Time magazine editors pick person of the year, but it also asks readers who they think fits the bill. Asked to name the person or group of people who had the greatest influence on 2020, readers’ top pick after 8 million votes were cast were essential workers—those who risk their lives on the front lines fighting the pandemic.
Now’s the time to get involved: AARP and the Nurses on Boards Coalition seek nurses to represent AARP on community boards working to improve patient care, support family caregivers, build healthier communities and advocate for policies that lead to better health and well-being.
