Update: Joe Biden is appointing deficit hawk Bruce Reed to be his deputy chief of staff.

Why we care: Reed’s history of austerity politics don’t belong in a Democratic administration. Reed and his wing of the party have pursued draconian policies like cutting Social Security, privatizing public schools, and increasing mass incarceration.

Our outlook: We’re disappointed to see Reed in the administration. But, we firmly opposed his potential appointment to oversee the powerful Office of Budget and Management. And he got a less influential appointment. It shows our pressure campaigns aimed at Biden can work.

We will hold the Biden administration accountable to break away from the type of policymaking that got us into the crises we face and usher in a new era of governance that delivers results for working families. We can only do it with your help.
