Friend,
It is okay to be angry when the inhumanity here is so clear and present. It is okay to be sad.
With the passage of the last-minute COVID-19 relief deal, those in the U.S. suffering under the weight of a surging pandemic and the economic pain it has unleashed can sleep just a little easier tonight. But our recent coverage of the congressional negotiations reveals that powerful forces are still firmly aligned against the needs of people, the planet, and the common good.
Our reporting didn’t sugarcoat the fact that joblessness, the looming wave of evictions, the loss of health care, and the struggles of families trying to hold it together have all created an unparalleled crisis—and we have been on red alert to inform our readers that this is a global catastrophe in which the rich have lined up to take what they can. At the same time, the poorest and most vulnerable are left out or forgotten.
Common Dreams’ laser focus on the injustice of the response is what sets us apart. We have lifted the voices of those who said we need to go big on the economic stimulus. We have highlighted the angry voices over the callous indifference of those in power—because we are angry, too.
This is the power of independent, progressive media. Our reporting is focused on the facts, but we don’t leave our hearts at the door. If you believe in Common Dreams—if you believe, like we do, that the people of this world deserve better—please support our work right now.
There is so much more work to be done. We may be angry. We may be sad. But most of all, we are ready to continue our coverage for those fighting back for a better, more just world. Please join us.
