Intersubjective Nonduality A Practical Guide in Eight Parts

The challenges faced by human beings, as custodians of planet earth, could hardly be more critical. We are confronting what many have called “wicked problems” – problems of such overwhelming complexity that they seem almost insurmountable.

Our highest values as a species, the moral principles that we have worked so hard to build and protect, seem to be eroding. All over the world, political and cultural certainties that we once held to be inviolable are under attack.

Climate change and environmental destruction, economic turbulence, mass migration, and the re-emergence of destructive political forces that we thought we would never see again – this complex interplay of variables is a perfect storm with terrifying implications.

Our situation is deadly serious. Yet at a time when we so urgently need to come together, we seem to be travelling in the opposite direction.

Sensitive and intelligent people everywhere are asking themselves and each other, with growing desperation: what can we do?

In the presence of such wicked problems, when the tried and trusted pathways are falling apart before our very eyes, we need to turn in a new direction. We need to look again, and we need to do so urgently. We need to come together with others in a way that promises real answers.

Many speak of oneness or nonduality. But as a species we have as yet been unable to harness the truth of nonduality and put it to work for us in any practical sense, in the world of time and space.

Oneness, nonduality or unity consciousness is not an abstract or remote concept – it’s a living, breathing reality. When two or more human beings are able to experience the mystery of this discovery in a shared or intersubjective sense, something miraculous happens.

One of the most important contributions that Andrew Cohen’s revolutionary teaching has made to postmodern spiritual culture is the discovery of this completely new, emergent dimension of enlightened unity consciousness – an awakened, transcendent field of shared consciousness beyond ego.

Andrew calls this new dimension Intersubjective Nonduality.

In teachings of enlightenment, the experience of nonduality, found in deep states of meditation, is the discovery that there is only one. In these profound altered states, the illusory boundaries of the separate self dissolve and fall away. Time and space disappear, and there is no longer any distinction between subject and object.

The revelation of nonduality is that the ultimate nature of all things – seen and unseen, known and unknown – is one and not two. From this perspective, there is only unconditional and infinite freedom.

But in traditional teachings, the experience of nonduality – of enlightened awareness – is entirely subjective.

In Evolutionary Enlightenment, we discover that the experience of awakened consciousness can miraculously transcend the boundaries of subjective interiority. Through the developmental group practice of Intersubjective Nonduality we can access the mind of enlightenment itself in relationship with others.

In a group setting, when we learn how to deeply listen beyond all of our fixed ideas, strong opinions and personal beliefs, we discover an already awakened field of enlightened awareness. This intersubjective field seems to have a sentience of its own, within which the experience of both liberated autonomy and profound communion merge miraculously into one state.

Learning how to access this awakened field of shared consciousness is a cornerstone of Evolutionary Enlightenment. The practice of intersubjective nonduality allows us to have direct access to the ascending drive of the Evolutionary Impulse, as it communicates with itself through us, as us.

When any and all obstacles that keep us separate are repeatedly transcended, it’s possible to awaken a rare degree of optimism about what is possible for humanity. Evolutionary Enlightenment is ultimately about creating Manifest Nirvana - a new and uncharted world founded on the principles of egoless transpersonal communication.
