Friend — in the weeks since the election, we've received promising news on President-elect Biden's cabinet picks heading up the response to climate change.
It's going to be a powerful and racially diverse slate of climate champions leading the Department of Energy, Office of Management and Budget, National Environmental Council, Department of Interior, and the EPA.; alongside environmental leaders serving as White House Climate Czar and Climate Envoy.
We're
finally going to have the right people in the driver's seat when it comes to climate change and environmental justice. There's one huge problem — we've gotten word that Mitch McConnell has the backing of Big Oil to block
any nominee willing to act on climate.
These nomination fights will set the stage for the next four years — and whether or not the Biden administration can seriously tackle climate change. The truth is, if the environmental movement stays quiet now, we're going to lose more than a few nomination fights. We lose our shot at real change. We
have to be ready to raise hell.
So we're asking: Before the end of the year, can you pitch in to help save the environment — one last time in 2020?
Friend — this fight will be massive and the League of Conservation Voters has squeezed our budget to the max this election cycle.
Can you chip in to help us beat McConnell and advance these nominees? We can't miss this opportunity to act on climate — even $5 helps »
As a thank you for all the LCV supporters who helped win in 2020, a major donor has agreed to triple match every contribution made until midnight on December 31.
Here's what we know: The cabinet confirmation process will begin in earnest in January and we don't have much time to organize and mobilize to stop McConnell and his Big Oil cronies. McConnell's team is plotting their course of action right now and will do whatever it takes to stop Biden's climate action nominees.
The Senate will have a very narrow ability to act if we win in Georgia, and we have a real opportunity to push swing senators like Alaska Senator Murkowski, Utah Senator Romney, and Maine Senator Collins. All three have stated that they are open to confirming President Biden's nominees, but all three are getting heavy lobbying by McConnell.
We need to flood the Senate with tens of thousands of calls, letters, and emails. Every single senator needs to hear from LCV's members and supporters. It's going to take everything we have to push this incredible climate cabinet forward in the new year.
Right now, the best thing you can do to make that happen is help fund our campaigns with an end-of-year gift. There is absolutely no time to waste! The planet can't wait another day.
Please, please, please rush a year-end contribution to the League of Conservation Voters. Remember: Every gift will be triple-matched through the end of 2020. That means even $5 can make a difference »
Thank you for all your support this year.
Sincerely,
Gene Karpinski
President
