REPUBLICAN PARTY OF NEW MEXICO STATEMENT ON CONGRESSIONAL PASSAGE OF THE $900 BILLION PANDEMIC RELIEF BILL

Albuquerque, December 22—Congress last night passed a massive $900 billion dollar COVID-19 relief package. The bill will provide Americans with stimulus checks, give small businesses much-needed loan relief and offer benefits for the nation’s unemployed.

There are also billions in funding for COVID-19 vaccine distribution.

The House approved the package in a 359-53 vote. The Senate then passed it by a 92-6 margin.

The following is a statement from RPNM Chairman Steve Pearce on the passage of the legislation:

“This is a bill that’s been long overdue, and financial help is finally on the way. The legislation is more than a relief package--it’s a rescue package for millions of Americans who have suffered through these hard times. Americans who have been hit hard will receive $600 checks and $300 weekly federal unemployment benefits, something they desperately need right now. Although this relief is needed, what’s needed more are jobs. This bill fuels the exploding debt crisis and taxes will increase. This is in part because too many governors and mayors are implementing severe restrictions which are crushing the jobs.”
